Aspects of the Everyday
The artist and scenarist Pascal Rabaté 3 to 6 June 2010 Opening hours: Thu noon–7 p.m., Fri/Sat 10 a.m.–7 p.m., Sun 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Salon-Galerie
A story of aging, a story of death, a story of love and sex among people with wrinkles. The comic album with the title “Bäche und Flüsse” (Streams and Rivers) called atten-tion to the French comic artist and story teller Pascal Rabaté. Before this album the only work available in German had been the short story “Allerheiligenwasser” that had been published in the Swiss magazine “Strapazin”. It shows one of the traditions that influenced Rabaté. As in work by Max Cabanes, the lazy shadows of a French summer lie over the neighbourhood. But with Rabaté the shadows are often pointed. As an artist, Rabaté is not stylistically bound. He changes colours, forms, techniques, but especially his character designs. Rabaté enjoys playing with expectations and leading them astray. Most often he lets things end differently than one expected.
2007 he was one of the teachers of the Franco-German Comic Artist Seminar in Er-langen. Otherwise he is still almost unknown in Germany. The new release of “Die Plastikmadonna” (The Plastic Madonna) in German lets the reader get to know Ra-baté as a scenarist. David Prudhomme was the artist. This is also a story about the everyday, but also about the invasion of the wonderful and surprising into everyday life. And about the zigzags of fate.
