The birth of the World Wide Web also offered comic artists new ways of making their art available to the general public far removed from print media: the webcomic as a child of the internet. In hindsight the development of the webcomic seems logical: large audiences, diverse styles and genres were established on the web in a relatively short time.
The so-called comic blogs that became successful at the beginning of the new 21st century are special cases in the development of the webcomic. Comic blogs like Flix, Leowald or Beetlebum developed that by now attract thousands of visitors per day. Young manga artists such as Asja Wiegand or Katja Klengel also discovered the internet as a platform for their webcomics. The exhibition “Soul Strips – Autobiographic Comic Blogs from Germany” that will take place parallel to the publication of the comic anthology “Panik Elektro 7: Seelenstrips” will introduce a few of the comic blogs in Germany and give a short overview of the stylistic diversity and the possibilities of this new medium.
The comic blogs and working environments of eight comic artists will be introduced: Flix, Katja Klengel, Ivo Kircheis, Johannes Kretzschmar, Leo Leowald, Ulf Salzmann, Asja Wiegand and Wittek.
