Mahlermuseum
The minimalist variations of Nicolas Mahler 3 to 6 June 2010 Opening hours: Thu noon–7 p.m., Fri/Sat 10 a.m.–7 p.m., Sun 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Salon-Galerie
In order to draw closer to the Austrian comic artist Nicolas Mahler it might help to modify the famous quote by the Austrian philosopher Wittgenstein „Absurd is all that is the case.“ Nicolas Mahler’s view of the world seems absurd. His drawings are also somewhat absurd. They are often described as reduced and focused. One could use the term abstract. Mahler creates figures using lines and curves. It is a matter of simi-larity, reproduction, variation.
Mahler was born in Vienna in 1969, has a family, is bound to his home country Aus-tria, but publishes his comics in France, Great Britain or Canada. Therefore he is an international artist.
In his newest work Nicolas Mahler has slightly thickened the minimalism while keep-ing the abstraction to a large extent. He has tried new forms, but at the centre of Nicolas Mahler’s composite world view lies the surprise at the absurdity of being that he can bring to aesthetic life with a few lines. Herbert Heinzelmann
Reception in the exhibition: Thursday, 3 June 2010, 5 p.m.
