”This is Mecki!“, announced the title page of issue 43 of the TV guide HÖRZU in 1949: “Good-natured outwardly as well as inwardly, funny and maybe prickly. Memo-rize his picture. From now on you will see him in every issue of Hörzu…”. This was the beginning of the longest-running German comic strip to date that the Wilhelm Busch-Museum Hanover dedicated a retrospective to this year. It is being shown in the context of the Erlangen International Comic Salon. The exhibition presents about 200 original drawings that cover all of the artistic periods of the variable and still on-going history of Mecki, among them the unpublished last story of the first Mecki artist Reinhold Escher.

Opening: Sunday, 30 May 2010, 11 a.m.
Introduction: Dr. Hans Joachim Neyer, Director of the Wilhelm Busch-Museum Hano-ver (German Museum for Caricature and Critical Graphic Works), and Dr. Jürgen Sandweg, Curator of the Kunstmuseum Erlangen, Music: Robert Coyne, London
